This tool converts columns of CSV (Comma Separated Values) data into rows. The program takes a CSV file as the input, automatically splits the data into individual columns, and reorganizes them from vertical arrangement into horizontal arrangement, making them rows. For example, if the input CSV has 5 columns and 10 rows, then the output CSV will have the opposite size, with 10 columns and 5 rows. Converting CSV columns to rows allows you to change the structure of your data, which creates new perspectives for more in-depth data analysis. The program handles everything automatically, with the only customizable option being the symbol indicating comments in the CSV file. Typically, comments start with a hash symbol "#comment" or two slashes "//comment". Specifying this symbol in the options will remove comments during the conversion process. Additionally, the tool automatically removes all empty rows without any information, giving you a clean dataset ready for further use. In cases where the input CSV has incomplete columns or rows (with a different number of values in records), you can choose how to handle such cases in the options. You can either place empty values in these positions or insert a custom value, which you specify in the options. Csv-abulous!

In this example, we transform the columns of a simple CSV file into rows. The input CSV file contains numerical and alphanumeric data organized into columns "a", "b", "c", and "d". The data consists of 4 columns and 3 rows. After the transformation, the values in the input columns change their positions. Now, the data has 3 columns and 4 rows, with the original headers "a", "b", "c", and "d" starting each horizontal row.
This example restructures CSV data in such a way that columns become rows. The CSV file contains information about fruits, their colors, and dominant vitamins, organized in vertical comma-separated columns. After converting columns to rows, the first column with fruit names becomes the first row of the output data, the second column with color names becomes the second row of the output data, and the third column with a list of vitamins becomes the third row in the output CSV. The program also removes all empty lines from the CSV file and eliminates comments that begin with the hash symbol "#".
In this example, we load a CSV file from our chemistry class with information about chemical elements. As we were copying the file, we accidentally forgot to copy the end of the file and it now contains incomplete data columns. Specifically, the "Symbol" and "State" columns lack values of the last element: "Carbon". To correctly transform columns into rows and mark places with missing values, we use the CSV data handling mode that fills the missing values with specific placeholder values. In this case, we enter the question mark "?" in the options and now, all missing values are question marks.
You can pass input to this tool via ?input query argument and it will automatically compute output. Here's how to type it in your browser's address bar. Click to try!
