This browser-based utility truncates Unicode text. Anything that you paste or enter in the text area on the left automatically gets shortened on the right. It supports all Unicode symbols and it works with emoji characters. You can choose which side of the text to truncate (left or right), set the truncation length (number of characters to leave) and add a postfix (or prefix) character after shortening. Created by encoding gurus from team Browserling.

This utility shortens your Unicode text to the given length. You can choose the truncation side and specify the number of characters (graphemes) to leave in the output. If you truncate the right side, then the ending part of the input data will be cut. If you truncate the left side, then the starting part of the input data will be cut. If you need, then you can add a postfix (prefix) character at the end (start) of the data. The length of the postfix/prefix is included in the length of the truncated text. We also have another very useful option that lets you truncate multiple lines at the same time to the same length.

In this example, we truncate a quote by the Greek Stoic philosopher Epictetus. The shortening is done on the right side. As we're using a wide Unicode character set here, the text is first split into the individual graphemes and then truncated to a length of 35 symbols.
This example truncates characters from the phonetic extensions block. The truncation direction is set to left, which means the cut is made from the start (from the first position). It removes the first 24 graphemes at the beginning, leaving the last 20 symbols.
In this example, we enable the "Individual Line Truncation" option to truncate a list of nine aquatic inhabitants emoticons to a constant length. We select the right-side truncation and leave only 9 characters in each line, with a three-dot character at the end. The three-dot character is included in the total length (so it's 8 characters of the original text plus the three-dot character).
