This tool converts JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) data structures into YAML (YAML Ain't Markup Language) configuration files. JSON and YAML are two popular data serialization and configuration formats commonly used in various applications, especially in web development and server configuration files. JSON primarily consists of arrays and objects expressed as key-value pairs, and it uses curly braces ({}), square brackets ([]), and colons (:) to create data structures. YAML, on the other hand, is a more human-friendly data serialization language and doesn't use that many braces or brackets. It uses indentation and a hyphen (-) to represent nested structures, making it visually easy to read. Often, converting JSON to YAML simplifies the maintenance of data, especially for system administrators. If you need to convert YAML back to JSON, you can use our Convert YAML to JSON tool. Fun fact: every valid JSON in itself is valid YAML (but not the other way around). Json-abulous!

In this example, we convert a JSON object containing a list of perfect numbers into the YAML format. Upon conversion, the program removes unnecessary curly braces and square brackets for YAML and generates an indented hierarchical YAML structure. The output YAML retains the same data but is much more readable and maintainable due to its simple format (no more curly braces or array brackets!)
In this example, we're migrating our chat application from JSON config files to YAML config files. We convert a JSON array containing different emotions that users can select into a YAML list. The input JSON is compressed without indentation, spaces, or line breaks. When it gets converted into YAML, the program rewrites it into a multi-line list format that is easier to view and edit.
In this example, we load a more complex JSON file with nested objects and arrays. This file contains information about a fruit, including its name, color, seasonality, and vitamins. The program parses the JSON, finds all key-value pairs, objects, and arrays, and outputs matching YAML with correct indentation for nested objects, and hyphen-prefixed lines for the elements of the "seasons" array.
You can pass input to this tool via ?input query argument and it will automatically compute output. Here's how to type it in your browser's address bar. Click to try!

We're Browserling — a friendly and fun cross-browser testing company powered by alien technology. At Browserling, our mission is to make people's lives easier, so we created this collection of JSON tools. Our tools have the simplest user interface that doesn't require advanced computer skills and they are used by millions of people every month. Behind the scenes, all JSON tools are actually powered by our web developer tools that we created over the last couple of years. Check them out!
