This tool extracts plain text from JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) data structures and files. It removes all special JSON symbols, such as curly braces that are used to define objects, square brackets that are used to define arrays, quotes that wrap strings, colons that define key-value pairs, and commas that separate array items, leaving only clean text. Converting JSON to plain text allows you to get just the data inside of JSON. Plain text is a universal format that can be easily shared with others, even if they are not familiar with JSON. JSON to text conversion is done as follows. If the input JSON is an array of elements, then it is converted into a vertical list of values. If the input JSON is an object, then it is converted into space-separated "key value" string pairs. This example converts a JSON array containing a list of numbers from 1 to 5 into plain text. The program removes square brackets and commas from the array and places each array value on a new line, resulting in a vertical list of values.
In this example, we transform a JSON object containing information about a musical composition into a text format. This is done by removing the quotation marks and the colon character from each key-value pair. Additionally, curly braces are removed as well. As a result, the output text consists of five key-value pairs separated by a space.
In the input of this example, we load a complex JSON object that includes nested arrays and objects. The tool removes all JSON syntax from this object and prints only the textual data (including numbers). Each JSON key of a nested object is placed on a new line and each key-value pair is printed via a space. In the output, all syntactic JSON characters are removed and we obtain plain text information about the restaurant menu and the bar's cocktail list.
