This online tool replaces columns in Tab Separated Values (TSV) files. It finds the TSV column that needs to be replaced and rewrites each field in that column, from the header cell to the final value in the last row. All other columns remain unchanged, so you can update one part of the table without rebuilding the entire TSV file. Column replacement is useful when one table column is outdated, imported under the wrong header, or stored in the wrong unit of measurement. To replace it, enter a new column of the same height in the options, using one value per line. You can also place several new columns where the original column used to be by entering tab-separated replacement values in the options. The column to replace can be selected by position. For example, 1 replaces the first column, 2 replaces the second column, and -1 replaces the last column. If the TSV has a header row, you can select the replacement column by header text, such as "name" or "status". When the same header appears more than once, the tool can replace only the first matching column, or it can replace every matching header in the TSV. If the height of the replacement column does not match the number of rows in the input TSV, the tool can automatically fill missing fields with either empty values or a custom string that you specify in the options. The tool can also clean the TSV before replacement by skipping rows that begin with a comment symbol and removing empty rows that contain no data. Tsv-abulous!

In this example, we update a TSV trail list by replacing the second column. The input stores trail lengths in kilometers, but we want the output to show the same distances in miles. We choose column number 2 and replace the "km" values with converted "mi" values.
In this example, we replace one TSV column with two new TSV columns. The original flight table has a single "gate_code" field that combines the terminal and gate. We select this column by its header name and replace it with separate "terminal" and "gate" fields. The replacement data in the options uses tabs between the two new fields on every row.
This example replaces the "lens" column in a TSV photo table with a new "lens_type" column. Before replacing it, we remove the blank rows and skip the "# test shots" comment row. The cleaned TSV has four photo rows, but the replacement data provides lens types for only three of them, so the final photo receives the custom fill value "unknown".
You can pass input to this tool via ?input query argument and it will automatically compute output. Here's how to type it in your browser's address bar. Click to try!

We're Browserling — a friendly and fun cross-browser testing company powered by alien technology. At Browserling, we love to make developers' lives easier, so we created this collection of online TSV tools. Our tools have the simplest user interface that doesn't require advanced computer skills and they are used by millions of people every month. Behind the scenes, all our TSV tools are actually powered by our programming tools that we created over the last couple of years. Check them out!
